![]() ![]() Under "filter" "Enhance" "Wavelet Noise reducer" and try a starting value of 0.001 and try different values from there. ![]() Version 2.9 gimp doesn't have a wavelet denoise plugin yet to reduce background noise, but if you download KRITA (Windows, Mac or LINUX) you can use its filter for this" Canbe very handy if using narrowband on a DSLR as for instance you can decompose a colour Ha image and delete the green and blue layers so you only work with the red layer (which will be shown as B&W) If working with colour you can also seperate into each RGB layer and do teh above steps to have better control over each colour - use : "Colours" "Components" "Decompose". If the image has a brownish tinge to background click the Black Pipette looking thing under that leftmost slider called "pick black point for selected channel" then goto view zoom 400% then move to an area of the image with no stars (just fuzzy noise) and click it and it will make that brownish background blacker - hit undo if you think it goes too far. Possibly (and most likely) repeat step 5 again to see if you can get more detailĨ. Repeat step 5 but this time instead of the middle arrow slide the left arrow to the very start of the left hand side of the histogram which will make background darker.ħ. Slide middle triangle over to the left until the image just starts showing detail (don't worry if background is getting lighter" - hit okĦ. you can use other methods that can work better bit this will get you 90% of the way to a great image.ĥ. GIMP - OK this is a very simplistic way of doing things to get you started. Choose TIFF 32bit rational for file type (or you can opt for 16bit but I see no point) - AND MAKE SURE that you DONT tick the "apply adjustments to image" because you want to modify using GIMP not DSS. Once complete don't edit anything, just go to the Processing tab and click "save picture to file".Ģ. Get it from here as it wasn't linked on the website:ġ. Ok GIMP 2.9.8 has been released and you need to use this to edit 16bit/32bit. ![]()
